‘Tis the season to go glam on your makeup routine. Your holiday party is coming up, but you have no idea what to wear or how to do your makeup. Every year, you tell yourself that you’re going to get ready super early so you have time for your bomb holiday beauty routine, but that never happens. After reapplying that winged eyeliner for the 10th time, those 30 minutes you had to spare turn in five.
Just because you’re running out of time doesn’t mean you can’t go out in style. My favorite makeup inspiration comes from The Mindy Project. Mindy Kaling is my makeup spirit animal. One look that I can’t get over comes from the final season of The Mindy Project.
Her lips are always painted to perfection, her eyes are lined with precision, and her skin is flawless. I decided to copy her beauty routine on a more realistic budget. What I love most about her makeup routine is that you can substitute any high end products with drugstore makeup. Whether you’re feeling fancy and want to splurge or prefer to get the look for less, here’s how you can recreate this glam makeup look in under five minutes.
1. Start with a clean slate.
Rule number 1: Prep your face with your favorite primer. I use First Aid Beauty’s 2-in-1 Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer. Even though the formula is light, it gives me full coverage, evens out my skin tone and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. If you want to stay true to the show, Mindy Kaling mentioned that she uses HOURGLASS veil mineral primer to control her oily skin. Although the full size bottle will cost you $54, the travel sized version is $19.
2. Use your foundation to give your skin a natural glow.
You’re in a rush, which means that you will have to cut your everyday foundation routine short. Applying one coat of your foundation should do the trick. The right foundation will blend easily with your skin tone and look completely natural.
3. Play up your natural brow.
Mindy Lakshim’s brows are always on point. Quickly shape your brows with this miracle brow pomade from Anastasia Beverly Hills. The best part is that it doubles as a brow primer! You can also substitute brow powder for eyeshadow.
4. Go for a mysterious look this holiday with a sexy smoky eye.
Now for the best part of your evening. Perfecting the smoky eye look is easier than it seems. The key to a smokey eye is priming your lids so your eyeshadow doesn’t melt off. As you’re applying your eyeshadow, try not to venture too far from your lash line so you don’t give yourself dark circles. When you’re blending the colors together, don’t be afraid to throw in a dash of brown for warmth. E.l.f. has an amazing matte eyeshadow palette dedicated to smokey eyes!
5. Make your eyes pop with mascara (eyeliner optional).
Before you head out, define your lashes with mascara, If there’s time to spare, apply dark liner to your upper lash line. This will give your eyes the full glam effect.
6. If red lips could kill…
No glam makeup look is complete without a killer red lip. Mindy’s lipstick is more of a reddish brown color here. But that doesn’t mean you can’t rock the red that you feel most confident in. I blended Colourpop’s Creeper and Limbo together to imitate that rust colored shade.
7. Use metallic highlighter for a more festive look.
You can’t ring in the holidays without some serious sparkle. Brighten your makeup look by adding gold, bronze, or silver highlighter.
